Artist: Adriane Dedic
Commissioned: 2022 | Completed: 2023
Medium: Fabric artwork | Dimensions: 40 × 52 inches each
This commissioned pair of textile artworks by Adriane Dedic celebrates the refined grace and spiritual depth of Japanese tradition.
The first piece portrays Lady Miyamoto Musashi, wife of the legendary samurai and lord Kenji Miyamoto Musashi—a composition of poise, devotion, and quiet strength. Her counterpart features the Japanese Biwa, the chosen instrument of Benten, goddess of music, eloquence, poetry, and education in Japanese Buddhism. The Biwa, long regarded as Japan’s national instrument, serves here as both symbol and offering—an invocation of harmony and wisdom.
Commissioned specifically for the foyer of Valdez’s custom built home in Elk Grove, California, these two works were installed side by side at the base of the staircase, greeting visitors with a fusion of reverence, balance, and beauty—where music and myth meet in fabric and form.
They now reside at his new home with his partner in Vacaville, CA. Both are displayed in the music Room of their new home.
